#7: The 6 Best Places in School to Get That Perfect Instagram Post

1. The Space Frame

Aptly named, the space frame offers a multitude of panoramic views, and has the twin perks of possessing a ridiculously photogenic clock tower as well as ludicrously luxurious skies especially around early morning and the late evening. It’s a fine place to snap [insert thoughtful quote] sky photos, as well as offering both shade and sunlit conditions for flexible aesthetic value, thereby being a suitable backdrop for group photos! With the alabaster monolith of the clock tower beaming its approving gaze down upon its young flock, and the uncannily picturesque backgrounds, the space frame is certainly a place to look at in brightening up your feed! (Although there is the slight drawback of occasionally having bewildered students photobombing your photos)

2. The SAC

Within the bowels of the school between the Roundabout and the Old Garden lies the glass bowl of the Student Activity Centre. An interlinking passage between the Old Block and the New Block, it is a gustatory circle ringed by a multitude of stalls, each advertising their fare in hastily scribbled marker ink or on pale, loudly proclaiming banners above their counters. While its propensity for #flipagrams is limited by weather conditions (only available during monsoon season), you will nevertheless find that the SAC is rife with snapshots of life in ACS(I), as well as offering the caress of natural light pouring in from the extensive glass windows to grace your birthday photos, for those who prefer to be in front rather than behind the camera.

3. The Rooftop

The rooftop is an isolated enclave that may not be too noticeable to the newly initiated in our school, but its relative seclusion offers a serenity that may be difficult to encapsulate within the hustle of other locations. It offers a wide variety of backdrops such as the greenhouses, the strangely satisfying rectangular windows, and even assorted abandoned chairs to use as props! The rooftop also allows for birds-eye views over the Astro Turf as well as the spiral staircase! While perhaps the least glamorous of the locations in this article, it is a hidden gem that can satisfy your search for suitable settings for your snazzy snapshots. While it itself may not be so, the rooftop certainly has you covered.

4. The Koi Pond

The Koi Pond is yet another suitable location to reinvigorate any failing feed! With the multitude of koi in the pond, you will find enough company for a fish gape selfie or perhaps a lonely recess (owing to the fact that you take fish gape selfies). However, the natural setting of the pond allows one to use a more ruminative caption which, when coupled with the right selection of hashtags, will let the likes flow in. Rather interestingly, photos taken at the koi pond appear to accrue a strangely large number of likes, as first noted by several HL Math students looking for an ME topic. HSP commentators have attributed this to the “feng shui” that permeates the atmosphere, owing to the disproportionate presence of koi. Whether Confucian or contemporary, the Koi Pond will suitably complement any philosophical post!

5. The Science Labs

If you’re looking to break out of the mould and experiment a little, look no farther than the level 2 science labs! Well equipped with beakers and burettes, you don’t have to look far to find props! Recent debate has focussed on whether the Physics or the Biology lab is more suitable for science selfies, however this largely depends on whether you prefer ammeters or amoebas. Do remember this when you’re making your subject selections. Taking 2 Group 4 subjects at HL will net you approximately 3 hours in the science lab every fortnight, as opposed to SL which would only give you about an hour and a half to get that perfect shot!

6. The Astro Turf

Rounding off the list is the Astro! Despite the recent reopening of the field, the Astro will undoubtedly remain the play area of choice for most of the student body providing you with moving subjects for gripping photographs! As one of the wide open spaces in school, it is a blank canvas allowing you to manipulate it to get that perfect picture. This is what makes the Astro the annual venue for the cohort photos! Furthermore, owing to the fact that it is wholly artificial, taking photos at the Astro turf is a very clean affair. Just remember, no food and drinks!
